On July 8, 2022, the Gravittus Foundation and UNICEF had in collaboration organized a roundtable conference on Children’s Rights, a topic that is the need of the hour. The conference aimed to generate awareness on Children’s Rights and discuss a way forward. The four most child rights delved into include Survival Rights, Development Rights, Protection Rights, and Participation Rights. The Gravittus Foundation is already engaged in key on-field work teaching children about ‘good touch’ and ‘bad touch’ in a major effort to prevent abuse and violence against and within the demographic.
Notable dignitaries invited to grace the occasion were eminent artistes, activists and other stalwarts of civil society, like Padmini Kolhapure, Roopkumar Rathod, Laxminarayan Tripathi, Sushma Seth, Rinku Rajguru, Pilot Captain Shivani Kalra, and more. The dignitaries came together to explore the relevance and seriousness of the subject matter and its global impact, blending into a truly motivational experience for all attendees. The points discussed in a free-wheeling conversation were followed up with a necessary action plan to create widespread awareness on the subject.
A film screening was also conducted, elaborating on the rights of children to survival, development, protection and participation. A short film titled ‘Udne Do’ by a child artiste associated with the Gravittus Foundation was also shared his experience, while another child shared experiences on behalf of UNICEF. Mrs Usha Kakade, Founder-President of the Gravittus Foundation, addressed the dignitaries with a warm welcome note. Swati Mohapatra, Communication Specialist, UNICEF, Mumbai, facilitated the conference on the issue of ‘Context Setting on Child Rights’. Leena Saldanha also addressed the gathering on pertinent issues regarding the topic at hand.
